William J. Hardy entered private practice in 1987, and has specialized in Federal litigation, with a primary emphasis on criminal and civil fraud. Mr. Hardy has represented individuals and corporations in Federal trials charged with bank fraud, export control violations, civil program integrity fraud, bribery and public corruption. A large part of Mr. Hardy's practice involves the representation of individuals and corporations during long and complex Federal Grand Jury probes. Mr. Hardy has an active appellate practice; having appeared in over fifty appellate cases. Qui tam or "whistleblower" litigation is also an area of specialty.

Mr. Hardy served as Litigation Branch Chief of the Criminal Section, United States Department of Justice, from 1982 to 1987. There he supervised senior Fraud Section trial attorneys in the investigation and trial of cases involving criminal violations against the Department of Defense, federally insured financial institutions, government entitlement programs and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Before joining the Fraud Section, Mr. Hardy was an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia where he conducted dozens of jury trials in cases involving a wide variety of Federal and common law crimes. Mr. Hardy has been an instructor and lecturer on trial advocacy at Harvard Law School, Pacific Regional National Institute of Trial Advocacy, the United States Justice Department's Advocacy Institute and the Hastings College of Trial Advocacy. He has been appointed an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, teaching a course in White Collar Crime.
