Anne Maher joined the firm as a partner in 2004. She practices in the area of advertising and consumer protection regulation. Her particular focus involves food, drug, cosmetic and dietary supplement advertising and marketing issues, and she has extensive experience advising clients on the advertising and labeling of products subject to the overlapping jurisdiction of the FDA and FTC. Her experience includes the representation of clients across product categories in FTC and state Attorneys General investigations and in challenges before the BBB’s self-regulatory groups: the National Advertising Division and the Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program.

Ms. Maher counsels clients on a broad array of advertising topics, including the review and evaluation of advertising substantiation, the express and implied claims conveyed by promotional messages, and the design and implementation of consumer perception surveys. She assists companies in complying with the emerging rules and policies on internet and social media marketing issues.

Prior to joining KKB, Ms. Maher worked at the Federal Trade Commission where from 1992-2001, she served as Assistant Director of Advertising Practices in the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. In that role, she supervised law enforcement investigations and industry outreach efforts in such areas as food, dietary supplement, OTC drug, tobacco, alcohol, infomercial and online advertising. She was also the agency’s designated liaison with the FDA and the USDA, working closely with the staff of both agencies on a wide range of projects and regulatory actions. Prior to her appointment as Assistant Director, she served in the Office of the Director, Bureau of Consumer Protection and as Attorney Advisor to an FTC Commissioner. She frequently speaks at industry and association meetings involving advertising law and policy
